News: HubSpot Expands Commerce Hub with Acquisition of Cacheflow

Written by Douglas Phillips | 10/14/24 5:38 PM

HubSpot continues to enhance its platform with the recent acquisition of Cacheflow. This is part and parcel to HubSpot's overarching goal of "Solving for the customer."

But, what does this mean for HubSpot's users (particularly those on a Commerce Hub subscription)?

This strategic move is set to dramatically benefit HubSpot users, specifically those offering subscription-based services, by simplifying the sales process and making their user's buying experience incredibly seamless.

What Is Cacheflow (+ Why Does It Matter for HubSpot Users)?

Cacheflow is a CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) and subscription billing software solution provider. They built their solution to "modernize the way businesses buy and sell. SaaS" to create a "simple and delightful buying experience that leads to a better start to the relationship."

Their technology is designed to automate complex revenue management processes, helping businesses close deals faster and manage their billing more efficiently.

For HubSpot users, particularly those selling recurring services, this means:

  1. Streamlined Billing and Payments: Businesses can now automate subscription billing, making the process smoother and more transparent for customers, and reducing manual errors.
  2. Accelerated Sales Cycles: The CPQ functionality simplifies complex pricing and quote generation, helping sales teams deliver accurate quotes faster, improving both efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  3. Enhanced Subscription Management: Managing subscriptions, renewals, and upgrades is more seamless, allowing businesses to focus on growth rather than administrative tasks.

Here's a quick video from Cacheflow highlighting the benefits of their platform:

As HubSpot puts it in their own news announcement: "Being able to buy and pay for services and software is an important part of the customer experience—one that Cacheflow knows exceptionally well... Because many of Cacheflow's customers are also HubSpot customers, Cacheflow uniquely understands HubSpot and our ecosystem."

What Does This Mean for the HubSpot Ecosystem?

So, what's the likely impact of this acquisition on the HubSpot ecosystem?

This single addition to HubSpot will revolutionize the Commerce Hub by empowering HubSpot's pricing and quoting solutions in the platform. This doesn't just benefit SaaS customers, either.

Bringing Cacheflow's tools into the HubSpot platform will mean more HubSpot customers will have access to enhanced CPQ solutions—potentially making HubSpot more attractive for a wider array of customers.

However, it may take some time to fully integrate the new solution with the HubSpot platform. According to Concept, "it would be no surprise to see a CPQ feature launched for Inbound 2025."

In the short term, this acquisition will not have a major impact on the HubSpot ecosystem, but we can all look forward to upcoming improvements and tools.

Why Switch Your CPQ to Cacheflow in HubSpot?

So, why make the switch from your current CPQ to the Cacheflow CPQ in HubSpot once it goes live? The potential benefits include:

  • Having a CPQ that is fully (and natively) integrated with your CRM. This will help to ensure that you can get everything done in a single platform seamlessly instead of having to switch between several tools.
  • You'll only have to pay for your HubSpot subscription instead of separate CRM and CPQ solution subscriptions.
  • Save time for your sales team by putting everything they need in one place.
  • Improve sales and marketing alignment by leveraging a CPQ solution that runs on the same platform as your marketing solution.

How Will It Function with HubSpot Automation?

So, how will Cacheflow CPQ function with your HubSpot platform? There isn't any way to be absolutely certain until the functionality goes live, so we're going into hopeful speculation mode here.

That said, if it's anything like HubSpot's other tools, then it's likely to play extremely well with HubSpot's Workflows and Sequences tools.

Some potential functions may include (🤞):

  • Using Workflows and Sequences to trigger tasks for your sales team based on CPQ tool triggers.
  • Generating quotes for prospects based on deal data.
  • Gathering attribution data for deals that help identify key conversion assets.
  • Integrating the CPQ tool in the deal pipeline to ensure that CPQ tools are leveraged.

Again, we won't know all of the possible functions between HubSpot automation and the CPQ tool until HubSpot releases it.

All we know for sure is that this acquisition finally gives HubSpot native CPQ functionality, and after seeing what they did with Clearbit, we don't doubt they'll answer every CPQ user's prayers with the evolution of this in their ecosystem.

Expanding HubSpot's Commerce Hub

With the integration of Cacheflow, HubSpot’s Commerce Hub is set to provide an even more robust toolkit for businesses looking to scale their recurring revenue streams.

The acquisition brings advanced capabilities that make it easier for businesses to manage the entire lifecycle of a customer—from lead generation and quoting to billing and revenue recognition—all within HubSpot’s ecosystem.

By adding Cacheflow's CPQ and subscription billing to its platform, HubSpot is positioning itself as a one-stop solution for businesses of all sizes, helping them reduce friction in the sales process and scale their operations efficiently.

As HubSpot continues to evolve, this acquisition marks a significant step in supporting its mission to provide a unified system that powers growth for businesses in a subscription-driven economy.
